Code of Conduct

PURPOSE

The purpose of this Code of Conduct is to promote positive behavior and ensure a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for all Cloquet Youth Basketball Association (CYBA) players, coaches, parents, referees, and volunteers. Participation in CYBA is a privilege, not a right, and all individuals are expected to uphold the values of teamwork, integrity, and sportsmanship.

PLAYER CODE OF CONDUCT

As a CYBA player, I agree to:

Respect Others

  • Show respect to coaches, teammates, opponents, referees, and fans.
  • Never use foul language, taunts, or gestures meant to demean or intimidate others.

Play with Integrity

  • Always try my best and play fair, even when no one is watching.
  • Accept responsibility for my actions on and off the court.

Be Coachable

  • Listen to my coaches and work to improve my skills, attitude, and understanding of the game.
  • Arrive on time and be prepared for practices and games.

Support My Team

  • Encourage my teammates and contribute to a positive team environment.
  • Never put others down for making mistakes—we all grow through learning.

Represent CYBA with Pride

  • Display good sportsmanship at all times.
  • Wear my uniform with respect and represent Cloquet with pride.

PARENT CODE OF CONDUCT

As a CYBA parent or guardian, I agree to:

Be a Positive Role Model

  • Display good sportsmanship by showing respect to all players, coaches, officials, and other spectators.
  • Never engage in yelling, arguing, or criticizing players, coaches, or referees during games.

Support the Coaches

  • Trust that the coaches are volunteering their time and doing their best to develop the players and the team.
  • Avoid coaching from the sidelines—let the coaches coach.

Encourage Effort Over Outcome

  • Praise effort, improvement, and attitude, not just wins and statistics.
  • Help my child learn from mistakes and enjoy the game.

Communicate Appropriately

  • Address concerns in a respectful manner and at the appropriate time (not during or immediately after games).
  • Follow the CYBA communication chain when addressing issues.

Promote a Safe and Fun Environment

  • Ensure my child is on time, properly equipped, and ready to participate.
  • Refrain from use of alcohol, drugs, or tobacco at CYBA events.

CONSEQUENCES FOR VIOLATIONS

Violations of this Code of Conduct may result in:

  • Verbal or written warnings
  • Suspension from practices or games
  • Removal from the team or the CYBA program

Decisions regarding conduct violations will be made by CYBA board members in consultation with coaches and, if needed, referees or other witnesses.

AGREEMENT

By participating in CYBA, players and parents/guardians acknowledge that they have read and understood this Code of Conduct and agree to abide by its principles throughout the season.
